Who says you have to sacrifice style to save the planet?
We all need to reduce, reuse, and recycle, but that doesn't mean you'll have to drink out of used jelly jars or recline on a scratchy canvas couch. We've found two great companies with products that are kind to the earth and your sense of good taste.
Furniture and home design center Vivavi is an eco-friendly answer to all your decorating needs. Named by Inc. Magazine in 2006 as one of the 50 most intriguing green businesses helping to drive the green revolution, Vivavi uses 100% clean wind energy to power their headquarters and showroom and donates 1% of all sales to environmental organizations.
Their classic Midcentury Inlay Sideboard, part of the Green:Mod cabinet series by Iannone Design, uses rapidly renewable bamboo wood and a topcoat that is low in volatile organic compounds (chemicals that can damage soil and groundwater and pollute the air) ($2800). Their Fibonacci Pendant Lamp, designed by Fire & Ice, is made from recycled and salvaged wood veneer, process-chlorine-free and recycled paper, and a sleek steel stem ($655, fluorescent bulb included).

At Whyr'hymer Furniture, self-proclaimed "woodbutcher" Brandon Morrison comes from a family in the timber harvesting business and is committed to a sustainable environment. In his elegantly crafted pieces, he only uses wood that is recycled, reclaimed, or certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The gorgeous Maktub Seat uses three types of wood, lyptus, birch, and black walnut, in its graceful curves (starting at $3500). Morrison also donates 3% of the purchase price of each piece to charity. Just one more reason you'll get a good night's sleep in his handsome black walnut and alder Taj Noor Bed (starting at $4500).
