The bestselling author of 100 Simple Secrets of Happy People spills the beans on what it takes to have a truly great relationship.
We can't reveal them all here, but the 100 Simple Secrets of Great Relationships are more than just what one expert or another couple has claimed to figure out. Compiled by author and psychologist David Nevin, they are rooted in scientific findings gleaned from more than a thousand studies and millions of people. Nevin has translated the extensive data into his own straightforward style and combined it with real-life anecdotes. The result is a fun and informative guide on how successful couples make it work. Some of the "secrets" are common sense, like being open with one another and sharing household chores, but you probably can't hear that kind of advice enough and there's something powerful about having it all assembled in one place.
The book will remind you of the importance of not competing with your partner in things like your career or sports, not letting jealousy of a past relationship come between you, and focusing on your strengths and not your weaknesses. There are also more surprising findings. For instance, it's okay for your relationship to be mundane (really!), you don’t have to agree on everything, and--unlike what we learned from cable-channel favorite Jerry Maguire--you really don't need another person to "complete" you. That's okay, because according to another item on the list, you shouldn't be watching that much TV anyway.
