twoDINE: Russian Tea Room
The Russian Tea Room has been a colorful New York classic since being founding in 1927 by members of the Russian Imperial Ballet. A popular dining destination for actors, politicians, writers, CEOs, and other members of high society, the Tea Room was closed for four years until reopening recently under new ownership. Thankfully, nothing much has changed at this dazzling historic landmark, where you can still relive the exuberant spirit of Tsarist Russia.
Located on 57th Street around the corner from Carnegie Hall, the massive Tea Room takes up a full four floors. The first floor cafe is the site of the original restaurant, with intimate red leather banquettes, golden samovars, ornate chandeliers, period paintings, and luminous green walls. The second floor is a cacophony of visuals, with a spectacular tree of Faberge-inspired Venetian glass eggs, hundreds of candles, blue glass walls, and a 15-foot-tall revolving bear aquarium that you have to see to believe. On the third floor is the stunning ballroom of gold, glass, and brass, featuring intricate etched mirrors of dancing bears and stained-glass ceilings. Finally, the fourth floor is a warm elegant space of inlaid wood, carved mirrors, a grand fireplace, and a model of the Kremlin in four seasons.

The food at the Russian Tea Room may not always measure up to its resplendent surroundings, but how could it when you're competing with dancing bears? Dining here is such an experience you probably won't mind. The imported black caviar is a must, and for the main course try the Georgian Spiced Tuna and the traditional Cotelette a la "Kiev"--foie gras herb butter, caramel and fig infused wild rice, steamed asparagus, and baby carrots. Of course, finish off your meal with a selection from their fine Tea Service. We suggest the smoky Lapsang Souchong or the slightly nutty Formosa Oolong.

twoDRINK: Russian Vodka Room
Head from the Tea Room to the Vodka Room, where you can sample one of 53 different vodkas or one of their unique vodka infusions like coriander or tarragon. This is youthful, modern Russia, not its Imperial Mother. Drink alongside hip singles in the dark, intimate room, and share a toast with your favorite comrade.
