Explore the forbidden at sexy Spiegelworld--part traveling circus, part European beer garden--which has pitched its opulent tent near South Street Seaport.
Your first sip is Absinthe, a sexy and raucous acro-burlesque variety show. Its name comes from the highly alcoholic distilled liquor, best known as the drink of choice among hedonistic artists like Toulouse-Lautrec, Oscar Wilde, and Van Gogh. The green elixir defines debauchery, and was banned in the US because it was considered psychoactive and dangerously addictive. Absinthe the show is equally intoxicating. This is one very adult circus, featuring seductively flexible (and often nude) performers whose daring acrobatics and feats of strength are sure to cast you under their spell. Performances run through September 30th; tickets are $69.00.

Explore the wild life with La Vie, Spiegelworld's other daring theatro-batic show. This world-premiere performance was created with the spectacle of the Spiegeltent in mind. The death-defying aerial acrobatics and mesmerizing music fulfill their promise that players will "act out unfulfilled fantasies, reveal hidden taboos, and indulge unrequited passions." The talented cast is from Les 7 Doigts de la Main (the Seven Fingers of the Hand), a Montreal circus-arts theatre company that brings a sense of intimacy to this sizzling over-the-top show. Performances run through August 31st; tickets are $35.00-$55.00.
