You might not think couple's therapy is for you, imagining two unhappy people sitting in a well-appointed doctor's office venting their frustration and blaming each other. But even the best relationships can use a little guidance.
There's a new innovative approach to couple's counseling that combines therapy and education in a fun workshop setting. Advanced Cognitive Therapy of New York (ACT) is an intensive two-part course that teaches couples how to manage their problems and improve their relationship. For some couples, ACT is a helpful supplement to regular therapy, but for others it's a proactive way of keeping their relationship healthy.
This workshop, led by couple's therapy expert Travis W. Atkinson, is designed to give you the valuable skills and techniques you need to avoid relationship pitfalls. The first half of the course focuses on maintaining your connection and improving the quality of sex, romance, and passion in your lives. In the second half, you'll concentrate on improving communication and managing conflicts when they arise, learning to engage in conflicts that are constructive not destructive. You'll also learn how to stop repeating old patterns and discover what's truly important to both of you.
ACT is limited to six couples, but this isn't group therapy. You'll work with your partner privately through the exercises. Workshops are held on Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:30pm; the next session is July 28. ACT now!
