.toy stores

Whether you're looking for something new, something kinky, or just a little inspiration, you can find it all at one of New York City's many sex shops:

Kiki De Montparnasse
Named for the celebrated figure of 1920s bohemian Paris, Kiki De Montparnasse is mecca for couples looking to indulge and explore their sensual desires. The gorgeous SoHo boutique (designed by renowned L.A. design firm Commune) has more than 3,000 square feet devoted to a sophisticated collection of intimate clothing and erotic accessories.

Babeland
This well-regarded sex shop may have recently dropped the "Toys" from its name, but they still have plenty to play with. In fact, the founders wrote the book on it, Sex Toys 101, available in the store. Check out the large assortment of vibrators and dildos on display, the extensive book and DVD collection, and fun goodies like the Flipper.

The Pink PussyCat
A New York institution, the Pink PussyCat is as much a tourist destination as a sex shop. The boutique on 167 West 4th Street may look seedy, but it's filled with treasures and can end up quite the party spot on weekends. If you'd rather not share the aisles with bar hoppers, they also offer more than 1500 products (like the Figure-Eight Stimulator) online.

Eve's Garden
A haven for pleasure-seeking women since 1974, this discreet West 57th Street boutique has vibrators, dildos, lubricants, and more. Have no fear, men--they have toys and games for both of you!

The Pleasure Chest
This Greenwich Village spot has been a mainstay since 1972, when it began as an erotic store for gay men. It has since expanded to include all sexualities and several other cities around the country. The attitude here is "no question is too silly, no fantasy too wild, no desire too crazy, and no instinct wrong." See for yourself at the 156 Seventh Avenue South, where you'll find everything from whips and paddles to bath salts and candles.

Purple Passion
At West 20th Street, 400 square feet of space is devoted to fetish fashion, bondage gear, toys, and hard-core accessories. They have an extensive collection of magazines and literature, although we can't imagine you'll be reading for long.

Come Again
This sweet and discreet little shop at 353 East 53rd Street doesn't have a website, but that makes us like it even more. Run by a former manager of Eve's Garden, Come Again is a popular outpost for the bachelorette set, but among the gag gifts you'll find an interesting selection of sex toys and a vast collection of books and DVDs.
