Did you ever wonder how your sex life measures up to others across this great land?
An ambitious website from the Museum of Sex (MoSex) allows you to be voyeurs to countless sexual experiences from coast to coast, as well as submit your own salacious stories.
Mapping Sex in America is an ongoing national project by the museum to document people's true sexual experiences from all over the United States and create a modern sex archive. Inspired by the oral-history interviews by the WPA in the 1930s and Alfred Kinsey's pioneering collection of sexual histories in the 40s and 50s, this interactive and addictive website is expertly done and loads of fun to explore. We especially love the 30s era music and the retro utilitarian design. Selecting anywhere on the U.S. map will get you a detailed picture of a state or city dotted with story markers indicating where a recorded rendezvous took place. Since New York is home to MoSex (and it being New York), there are more stories here than anywhere else. But you can uncover what's going on between the sheets (or behind the tree or in the car or in the bowling alley) in places like Chicago, Illinois, Boise, Idaho, or Muskogee, Oklahoma.
The stories are labeled by sexual orientation and type of encounter, so within a few city blocks you'll find a full breadth of experience, from "straight romantic" and "straight casual" to "transgender group" and "gay bizarre." The curious icons indicate what's what, such as a rose for romance, a tree for public sex, and a gasmask for the bizarre. The democratic nature of the site means the quality of the writing varies--some are prosaic while others are more blunt, but most seem to be at least honest.
All entries are safely anonymous, so don't be shy--go ahead and put your own sex romp on the map. You shouldn't keep that afternoon by the Central Park boathouse to yourselves!
